The launch of Kerry Sports Manila signals the arrival of the luxury hotel fitness centre. Stack Studio applies their 5-star hospitality design experience to this enormous health club – including a gym, pool & deck and spa – located at the grand Shangri-La Manila.
Our brief was to express the the Kerry Sports brand values – young, vibrant and energetic – in a multipurpose sports centre. The scope includes a cafe, hydro bar, change rooms, basketball court, squash courts, yoga studio, pilate studio, multi-purpose court, spin studio and a large floor space for the open gym.
The design concept is ‘Leading the way’. Not only is it a leader in terms of fitness facilities, the design quite literally guides guests around the various zones by using different floor finishes, integrated digital screens and feature elements to make it easy to navigate in the most intuitive way.
As a part of Stack’s commitment to sustainable practices, the design utilised both the local talent and materials to attain maximum community engagement and economic sustainability. The project enforced an extensive use of natural materials such as bricks, recycled timber and plywood. Staying true to the design narrative, most of the resources and artworks were sourced locally, with Stack engaging local young artists for painting, artwork and accessory requirements as a way to give back to the local community.
