Hotel Indigo Xiamen Haicang interprets contemporary luxury design through the lens of the historic city’s rich cultural heritage. Indigo’s Neighbourhood Stories is a central theme that ties the spaces together, and links the design to its local context – with hyper local cultural connections present throughout.
The design celebrates Fujian culture and coastal way-of-life. The textured metal finish of the ceilings evoke the nets of local fishermen. The lobby captures the vibe of Xiamen’s street gardens while the corridors feature the theme of the area’s ancient trees.
The interior design is strongly influenced by Lian Hua Da Cuo (literally Lotus House) – the distinctly Fujianese architecture of traditional large houses with an internal courtyard – and layering it onto the hotel layout of communal spaces, private rooms and the walkways that connect them.
There is a shift in mood between public and private spaces.
The public areas feel bolder and ripe for exploration while the guest rooms and suites are welcoming and refined.
