Kimpton launches its inimitable brand experience in Australia at the grand Art Deco building known as the Water Board Building in Sydney. The goal of the project was to retain the architectural bones of the building whilst giving it that eclectic Kimpton character.
The Kimpton brand focuses on intimate, human-scale spaces – not the most natural fit with the grand proportions and imposing features of the building. Stack Studio applied simple design gestures to the space to bring the ceiling down to human scale, including the introduction of 'lighting canopies' around the four columns, dressing up these architectural features whilst still paying respect to its Art Deco heritage.
The eclectic nature of the Kimpton brand is also reflected in the FFE selections of both the public and guest room spaces. The many quirky yet classy details make the Kimpton a truly unique hospitality destination in Sydney.
